Off Topic Tuesday: Laundry

My laundry staples!!

I love doing laundry - I know that's strange, I but I do.
Here are some of my laundry hacks making it more fun for me!

  • I don't separate colors...except the whites.  My Mama Rose told me about Shout Color Catcher years ago and I've been using it ever since.  Red clothes with beige clothes with yellow clothes - and no staining or color runs.  OK, except that one was only one time!  And it was a special circumstance, not with our regular work/weekend/sleeping clothes and had I used two color catchers, I probably could have avoided it. For HE machines, you need to put the color catcher in a mesh bag.
  • I don't take anything to the dry cleaners for cleaning.  I will take clothes that need a good pressing occasionally.  I found this specialty laundry detergent called The Laundress.  I use their wool and cashmere shampoo on everything I would normally take to the dry cleaners.  Wool Pants, Wool Coats, Down Coats, Down Comforters, Cashmere - all of it, in the washing machine!  On the Hand Wash/Wool Cycle of course.  If it has embellishments like beads or sequence, I take it to the dry cleaners.
  • Whites are never as white as the first time - unless you use The Laundress Whites Detergent.  The first time I used it, my husband asked if I bought him new tank tops.  It also works well together with The Laundress Stain Solution to get rid of pit stains.
  • What about delicates, like silks and undergarments.  You guessed it, in the washing machine with The Laundress Delicates Detergent.  All delicates go in the mesh bags and into the washing machine on the delicate cycle.

Yes, I'm showing you my used bottles to prove I actually use them.
I have replacements ready when these are done.

As you can tell - its a bit of an obsession...

You can purchase Shout Color Catcher and mesh bags wherever laundry products are sold, like Target.  The Laundress products can be purchased at  They also have laundry tips and videos.  These detergents are pricey but they are very concentrated so you're only using a few capfuls for each wash and look at all the money I'm saving from the dry cleaners!  The Laundress detergents are formulated for HE machines.

Until next time...make today amazing!

  1. Hi Tamiko! As you know I love using Shout Color Catchers. I also had one time I should have used two because of a new red top. Thanks for the tip of using a mesh laundry bag. I'll remember that whenever I get a HE machine, my current top-loader won't break! Going to the website to check out the laundry products. I LOVE your blog!! Love you! Mama Rose
