Weekend Recap: BeautyconNYC, October 17, 2015

Beautycon was held this past weekend at Pier 36 in New York.  I attended with Tiffany (IG: tiffytaffyboo) and Asha (IG: ashaxtina).  Both Tiffany and Asha have YouTube channels coming soon!  Make sure you follow them for updates.

We had PRO tickets which entitled us to get in early, a swag bag and two meet ups.  

The check in process was a disaster! There were people everywhere and the security didn't know how to direct people properly.  Our tickets allowed us to get in at 10:30 am; an hour and a half before the general admission ticket holders.  We arrived at 9:45 and with all the confusion and disorganization, we didn’t get in until 11:15. 

There were also too many types of tickets; General, Parent, PRO, Platinum, BFF.  I received and email saying I was entitled to a BFF box (their current subscription box) with my ticket only to be told everyone received that email.  By the way, Tiffany and Asha didn’t receive one.  I spoke to other attendees and those who received the email were also confused.

We didn’t attend any meetups because those lines were long and outside.  The weather wasn’t ideal for me to stand outside.

Carols Daughter had photo ops with Stephanie of Beauty by Lee and Taren Guy.  Gabriel Almodovar working with Maybelline gave me a brow touch up and I met Joanne, Chaz Dean's sister (WEN cleansing shampoo) at the QVC table.

Sprinkles provided mini cupcakes passed throughout the event, you could also purchase full sizes at their vendor table.

Speaking of food, there were only two food vendors and the lines were incredibly long.  There was also a Parents Lounge with seating featuring Skinnygirl cocktails. 

Since this is such a large event, they could have sold 500 less tickets or held it in a larger venue.  There wasn’t enough general seating leading people to sprawl out on the floor and some of the aisles were narrow.  I waited on the QVC line for over an hour and only made it to the middle of the line.  I gave up because the Uniquely You panel was starting. 

I really liked the concept of content creators, large and small brands in the same room giving you the opportunity to interact with the people and products you’ve seen on Instagram and YouTube.  I was not familiar with many of the content creators; mainly because I’m not in their demographic.  The 12-24 age range is the bulk of the target audience. 

Overall I don’t think my experience was worth the high cost of the ticket.  I’m not sure if I will attend next year, but you never know.

I purchased the Eden Body Works shampoo and deep conditioner, Shea Moisture Fruit Fusion Body Wash and eva nyc curl cream.  The WEN Cleansing Conditioner and compact from Perfect were complementary.
